      William A. Shane, 1912-2006, Tipton

      William Albert Shane, 93, of Tipton, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, at the Villa Marie Nursing Facility in Jefferson City.

      He was born Dec. 17, 1912, in Blackwater, a son of John Riley and Rosie Cornine Shane. On April 22, 1936, he was married to Georgia Juanita Stemberger, who died in 1999.

      Mr. Shane worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a section hand for 35 years. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. He liked to go camping and to remember and talk about the good old days.

      Survivors also include two sons, Jimmie Shane, and his wife, Donna, of Syracuse, and Billy Shane, of California; three daughters, Shirley Hughes, and her husband, Chris, of Jefferson City, Esther Schmidt, and her husband, Carl, of Wellsville, and Dorothy Lewis, of Sedalia; 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

      He was also predeceased by a son, Robert Shane.

      Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton, with the Rev. Gary Palmer officiating. Burial will be in the Syracuse Cemetery.

      Pallbearers will be Chris Schmidt, Shane Mundy, Jim Hudson, Ray Shane, Brian Jaco and Bobby Shane.

      Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Tipton.

      The family suggests memorial contributions to the Tipton Nutrition Center.
