Notes |
- An 82-year-old woamn was fatally injured about 5:30 p.m. yesterday when she walked into the path of a car on Rt. 29 at the Mossville blacktop road intersection.
Dead on arrival at Methodist Hospital was Lillie B. Shane of Mossville.
Cornoner Horace Payton said the elderly woman was crossing Rt. 29 from the west to the east side when she was struck by a northbound auto driven by Thomas E. Walker, 58, of Moline.
Payton said the woman waited on the center median while one northbound auto passed, then stepped into the path of the Walker car.
Walker and his wife, Rose, said they did not see the woman until she was in the path of their car. She was wearing a dark coat and had a shawl on her head.
The Walkers said they were on their way to visit their son, Bob J. Walker, who lives on Wayne Road, north of Mossville.
County policement, who, along with Payton, investigated the accident, said it is not known where the woman had been.
