Mooney, Thomas Jr obit

Thomas Mooney one of the old respected residents of this county died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Dalton at Peoria, Sunday morning at 11:30.  Mr Mooney was a prominent citizen of that city and was well known there and throughout the county.  He was identified with the growth and the city's interest for over fifty years and was held in high esteem by an extensive circle of friends and acquaintances.

He had been ill for more than a year and a half and had been bedfast for over five months.  Though his death had been momentarily expected for several weeks, it was none the less a shock to the members of his family and his intimate friends.

Thomas Mooney was born January 1, 1820 in New York City.  He came to Illinois and Peoria county in 1835 and this county has been his home continuously since with the exception of five years, about 1870, he resided in Missouri.  He served as circuit clerk in 1864 and was also for some years a police magistrate.  In addition he was collector of water rents at the time when the city owned the water plant.

He was twice married.  Three children were born by his first wife, two of whom survive him.  His second wife survives him.  To them were born five children, three of whom have passed away.

Mr Mooney was an uncle to George and O.K. Mooney, grocerymen, respected and honored citizens of this city.
