    Alice Wellmina Beck was born October 31, 1866, in Stark County, Ohio, USA, where she grew to girlhood. At the age of 16 years, she with her parents, moved to Richland County, Wis. On December 31st, 1884, she was united in marriage to William T. Lowman, at Bloom, Wis. In the year 1888 they moved to Jackson County, where they lived until the year 1903, when they moved to Ludingtion, Eau Claire County, Wis. and where they have since resided. To this union four children were born, namely: Buford, Loy, Carrie, (now Mrs. Joe Berlin), and Iona, (now Mrs. Bertie Berlin). Mrs. Lowman united with the church at Alma Center and has since led a Christian life, always doing her share in Christian work, and always a great helper in community gatherings. She was a kind and loving wife and mother and a kind and true friend. She will be sadly missed by all. She leaves to mourn her sad departure, her husband and children, eight grandchildren, her aged mother, Mrs. Eliza Nogle, one own sister, Mrs. Carrie Greenawolt of Beloit, Ohio, USA, and two half-sisters, Mrs. Cora Zimpel of Butternut, Wis., and Mrs. Hattie Hurbner of Ashland, Wis.: two own brothers, George Beck of Bloom City, Wis., and Henry Beck of Stillwater, Minn., and three half brothers, Chris Nogle of Winlock, Wash., James Nogle of St. Louis, Mo. and Wm. Nogle of Eau Claire, Wis. Mrs. Lowman died at her home here, Sunday, Dec. 30, 1928, at the age of 62 years, 1 month and 30 days, after a lingering illness of four mos. duration. Funeral services were held from the home and the White schoolhouse, Thrusday afternoon, Jan 3, Rev. Blish of Stanley officiating. Interment was in the Ludington Cemetery.

    In the 1850 census, Christian's occupation is listed as a saddler. His parents are from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
    Christian was first married to a Mary Jane Smith; they had a daughter Ella.
    He then married Katherine Shuckhart, a widow with two sons. She died and then he married her sister, Eliza Shuckhart.
    Eliza had a son named Joseph but she didn't marry the father of her son.

    Christian Beck was a private of Captian R.A. Miller Company I 178th Regiment of Ohio Infantry volunteers on the 22nd day of September, 1864 and was discharged on the 17th of June 1865. Information found on him include: Age 44, grey eyes, dark hair and complexion, 5'6 1/2" tall. His parents are listed as Christian and Mary Beck on his death certificate and in his pension record. He is buried at Salem Reformed Cemetery in Robertsville, Ohio, USA beside wife Eliza's parents.
    His early death was due to wounds he received while fighting in the Civil War.
